You will soon find yourself middle-aged, having done nothing more than routine jobs, and being little farther along than you were years ago. The extra effort is the difference between the great mass of mediocre artists and the comparatively small group of very good ones.
    >And in Art, study can never stop. You will find sketches galore in the studio of the good man, with the paint quite fresh. The mediocre artist's sketches are old and dusty.
    >I have seen so many middle-aged artists still hoping, whose samples are frayed at the edges, and thumb-marked with time. Sometimes it has been a matter of years since they sat down and actually did something to give their hopes any promise. They are plodding their lives away at something they hate, and doing nothing about it. These are the men who never seem to have had a chance. The truth is, they never seized a chance.

    **Strive for quantity AND quality.**

    Anime Studying:
    >Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
    >Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
    >Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
    >Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
    >Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

    General Anime Style Discussion:
    >Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
    >Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
    >Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

I think it's inevitable that AI will have to be used in some way to supplement art, whether it's creating concepts or backgrounds, or get left behind in the dust.

Isn't it FUCKING HILARIOUS, cruelly ironic, almost a cosmic prank that the ONE thing everyone thought artificial intelligence would never be able to replicate is the first thing it's able to replicate when it was concieved?

    Still

There is a fundamental flaw in the ai generated content that I'm only 50% sure it won't be fully fixed, and that's emotion. There's a sort of soulless vacancy that haunts the incredibly aesthetic ai generated content. The poses aren't very fluid, there's no technique with exaggeration. It can't capture the emotional complexities of a human. There is no "story", nor experience, no evidence of another, different conscience that experiences his own version of qualia. I hope and pray to god with every vessel of my flesh that AI doesn't figure that out, because if that happens,
    1. There's really no point in artists anymore. It'll be reduced to a skill that's only impressive in that wow, you can "do stuff like a computer can"
    2. The implication that humans aren't special, we are just machines that can be easily figured out, the human 'spirit' is an illusion.'

Post your current drawing here and give constructive critique to others! Don't take anything personal!
Please make sure your posted image is clear, downsized to around 1000 pixels wide, rotated to the correct orientation, and that any unused space is cropped.
If you want critique on a drawing from the previous thread, you can delete it there and repost in this one.

Medium (12-16"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 Ultra, used iPad Pro 12.9"
Large (22"+): Cintiq 22HD, Cintiq Pro 27 - Make sure they have VESA standard mounting holes.

    >Avoid:
    >XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand making Wacom imitations
Poor build quality, pens with wavy lines, wobbly nibs, broken tilt, issues registering light pressure, terrible customer support, uncalibrated. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Do not be fooled by myths like "Chink companies are just as good as Wacom now" - they've been saying this for over 8 years, nothing has changed. Consider reading the amazon reviews, particularly the negative spectrum and you will find some very common themes.
Chinese companies have also been proven to shill on 4chan. You will see dozens upon dozens of posts in this thread by a chinese schizo shill, who will either be bitching about the OP, gaslighting as a Wacom fan, making pointless spam posts or giving terrible advice (like recommending Huion). Just ignore and report him.

    >Microsoft Surface Pro
More optimized for palm rejection than good quality drawing. Wobbly lines when drawing slow and straight.

    >Cintiq 13-16"
Completely outclassed by the Galaxy Tab Ultra & iPad

    >Cintiq Pro 16, 24, 32
Overpriced, QC issues, loud fans, proprietary mount interface

    >Lenovo
Worse than Samsung in every way.

String comment = 'I have recently gotten a million recommendations about sculpting reliefs and bodies on youtube. It seems like there's still dozens of skilled sculptors alive.
So I was initially wondering about the fact that it seems like traditional sculpture is far better preserved than traditional painting. Even the people trying their hardest to copy the old masters simply will never be able to get it right, and certain techniques even at the molecular level of the pigment grinding methods will be lost forever that make all the difference. Sculpture though? It seems like sculpture is just as good as ever, there is no short supply of stone masons ready to make good work if you pay them properly.
Now that isn't exactly a good thing, sculptors of the past would probably be distraught to see modern sculptors reduced to interior decorators, but I kept comparing the processes and realized maybe sculpture is just easier?
The process ultimately comes down to drawing out three dimensionally in marble, and focusing on the skin tones in polychrome. It requires less focus on the positioning of the final image because you cannot control the way you enter the room, and is ultimately just an easier technique.
Is this why sculpture is not just better preserved now, but also why Romans and Greeks were able to create god tier stuff thousands of years ago, but their paintings barely just discovered perspective at the same moment they collapsed? Is sculpture just objectively the easier artform to master, while painting has a harder learning curve?'

    >Are they encoded?
    >What the hell do I do with them?
No, they're not info-hashes or magnets; we're encoding the links to keep bots and scripts from recognizing and harvesting/reporting them. You will see a GIF in the first two or three posts that explains what to do. Don't understand some of the terms in the GIF? Google them. Some of the encoded links *may* have multiple layers - like ogres or onions. You might have to "peel" them more than once to get to the good part.

String comment = 'Abstract art is art insofar as cultural institutions say that it's art.

To create art is to create harmony. It is to demonstrate a relationship between the disparate elements of a thing by which those elements all accord with one another. This harmony is beauty.
The way abstract art works is that the artists take a quite random jumble of things, and assert that they are in fact harmonious in some way. This is different than traditional art, which tries to make things actually visually harmonious; it's not creating harmony, it's ASSERTING harmony.
Abstract art is inferior because it relies on the viewer knowing and caring about the assertion the artist makes regarding the beauty in the piece. Generally, abstract art has accomplished this by leveraging institutions (museums, galleries, magazines, etc) to give their assertion of beauty more impact. That's why abstraction didn't really take off until the CIA astroturfed it into existence, by the way. At any rate, once these institutions lose their cultural force, so to do the claims of the artists. If someone who had never heard of abstraction found a Pollock in the trash, he'd think it was some sort of test canvas. It's art that can only exist within a limited cultural context.
This is distinct from art which is too intellectual for the average person to comprehend. Monet wanted to capture the particular character of light, and pursued that goal (showcasing the harmony of light without strict form) intelligently. An intelligent observer can decode Monet's work without knowing anything about Monet, and perceive that value.
Pollocks work, on the other hand, cannot be decoded. Even if it does, as he alleged, create beauty by displaying his subconscious urges, those urges can't be detected by someone viewing the art. If he wrote a description of what he felt he had imparted in a particular painting, the reader would be as informed by the description alone as by the description combined with the painting.'

I'm facing an issue now with ergonomics. I have two "main" setups and they're both kinda painful:
    >Setup 1: Sitting on the bed, tablet on my lap.
I get back, neck pain and the occasional wrist pain. Its "comfy" but it's so casual it's hard to lock-in if you get me.
    >Setup 2: At the desk, tablet propped with an object.
This one is closer to my home setup and I get a lot less wrist pain from it, but it's far from ideal. The hotel desks tend to be too high and the seats aren't adjustable or soft so a few hours of work will give me stiff shoulders and aching sitbones.

I miss my home setup and desk but it's not something I can bring with me. If anyone has suggestions for portable methods for better ergonomics I'd appreciate the advice...'

There's just this "coolness" inherent in gen 1 that was never quite touched upon. The anime paints Red as "Ash" who, despite literally one event of saving his pikachu on bike, literally never grows as a person. Other than he is pretty much the most extroverted person ever. Red is silent.

    ...

all of RBY is just one INTROVERT dismantling Team Rocket while dominating entirely through his actions. Contrast this with BLUE. Blue is pretty much every incel/mad lad/ douchebag you've ever known. He never rises to the occasion and blames everybody but himself. While he isn't perfect, it's fairly obvious, that BLUE/GARY has it all compared to RED. He has a sister, a renowned grandfather and...no parents? He wants to prove everything and is ultimately jealous you still have your mother, but no father? Why is this never expanded upon?

Oh yeah childrens game. sorry. I just felt like BLUE's attitude vs RED's teached you a lot about how some people are so insecure and that its infinitely better to be a person who speaks by action. That's what POCKET MONSTERS is to me. I always treasured the manga's style, but red is silent. Which is a difficult manga to make.

Down to Gold/Silver, Red's weight is felt through his silence, after being defeated and becoming champion, he just leaves.

POKEMON is about growing up and learning to deal with the way the world works, and even if you must ultimately battle your lesser animal friends to death, you can still make moral decisions. Maybe after becoming champion, Red just releases his pokemon back into the wild or something, fully encompassing a deeper lesson. Even though you manage to always be ONE GYM BEHIND GARY, the only theory I have is this:

The guy that calls you champ in the making?
That's your dad who left keeping an eye on you.'

Here's a basic schedule for the first chapter, but feel free to ignore it and work at your own pace. A schedule for the rest of the book will be discussed later.
Start by reading the first 32 pages. Don't worry about copying the drawings yet. Pay attention to the basic proportions pages. When you're done, got to page 38.
Pages 38-49: 2 weeks. Take your time learning the mannequin. Try drawing it in various poses.
    Pages 50-56: 1 week
Then spend 1 week going back and studying the pages that were skipped.
Don't just copy! Try redrawing Loomis' drawings from memory after your initial copy, and take note of what you got wrong. Apply what you've learned to photo reference and try inventing figures from imagination.

I invite you into these threads to challenge ourselves by drawing at least two or more Female figures and put an emphasis on the figures interacting with each other; that means you're going to be getting involved into a little bit of story telling with your figures - not with words but purely under a visual medium and adding an environment or background with the figures is highly encouraged but it is not required. These threads should operate similar to the Yuri board >>>/u/ in the aspect that a drawing must contain at least two visible Female figures in order to post. For other drawings with a single Female figure such as the "1girlwhitevoid" pin up drawing or any drawings with a visible Male figure please post in the regular draw threads instead.

New to Yuri? Yuri is a genre from Anime that puts emphasis on relationships that are powerful between Females whether they be tender loving, sadistic, or just plain unfriendly. Please visit the Yuri board >>>/u/ for a general introduction to this Anime genre and just like the Yuri board suggests, drawings of Lesbian sex or nudity between two or more female figures is allowed but not required.

Have an OC? Shipping your favorite anime character with another lady? Got a personal project you're working on? Feel free to post them here but remember this is a visual arts board where you tell your story not with words but under a visual medium with forms and shapes.'

Webtoon is the ancient Korean art of scrolling comics. Instead of traditional manga/comic pages, panels are spread out individually for easier reading on cell phones.

    >So they're just spliced manga/comic pages?
You can do that if you want, but they're fundamentally different for a few reasons. For example, panels tend to be drawn longer to fit phone screens, and traditional 2-page spreads are not possible to fit in scrolling format.

    >Are there standard page sizes?
Technically yes, but it depends on which platform you post in. Naver Webtoons uses
800x1280px, but the site automatically splices & resizes images anyway.

    >Do I have to make it in color?
    If you want subscribers, yes.

    >Why would I make one?
To be rich & famous, of course. All jokes aside, the pay is low if you're lucky enough to get hired in the first place, the deadlines are more brutal than the manga industry, and the average reader age floats around 11. But as a novel medium with a growing industry, it may still be worthwhile enough for you to experiment.
